Charlotte Edington is Polly Hyslop Maxwell’s grand-daughter. First and greatest thanks must go to her. The eleven albums were gifted to Dumfries and Galloway Libraries, Information and Archives by Charlotte; it was the expressed wish of her father, Sir Kenneth Stoddart, that they should be in public custody and available to all. Both she and her husband Simon have been kind, supportive and patient throughout the long gestation period of the project. Two further albums and associated loose photographs were lent for digital copying by John Maxwell, grandson of Polly’s sister Lyon, and form a significant addition to the website. Much of the research work that provides the context to the images has been carried out by volunteers from the Friends of the Archives of Dumfries and Galloway. Two individuals in particular have given freely and generously of their time and expertise. Ian Anderson researched and compiled the detailed family histories and the biographical and topographical notes that add so much depth to the website. Martin Robertson’s photograph captions are both knowledgeable and pithy, and complement Polly’s sense of humour with his own. The important and extensive task of scanning all the albums was carried out by Joanne Turner of Dumfries Museum and the volunteers there. Finally thanks to everyone else who contributed in some way to the success of this project.
